Personal Growth Through Your Memories

Exercises that allow you to mature emotionally are important. In this article we will tell you about such an exercise.
Personal growth through your memories

Emotional immaturity is synonymous with a lack of emotional development. To be emotionally mature, you have to digest things, evolve and grow. In other words, emotional development requires personal growth, which is characterized by the relationship between your emotions and the experiences you have gained from overcoming various difficulties.

Another way to stimulate emotional maturity is to use your memories. Today we will discuss this possibility. As Enrique Rojas pointed out in his article “The Immature Personality”, emotional immaturity is characterized by emotional instability, lack of self-awareness, and a lack of sense of responsibility.

You may be wondering how to control your emotions and feelings. Today we want to share a good way you can start your journey towards personal growth.

Your journey towards personal growth

To start this journey, we recommend that you try meditation. Close your eyes and focus on your breathing.

Furthermore, try to visualize yourself, on your way down a path. It does not matter if it is full of flowers, leaves or sand. The important thing here is to take in everything that surrounds you. Feel the sun’s rays warming your body from above.

When the path comes to an end, you see a small cabin with a door. If you open the door, you will be greeted by a staircase. Start moving down this staircase and you will find that the cottage has three floors.

Your journey to personal growth begins on a path.

A room full of bad memories

On the first floor you come to, you will see a door and an elderly person guarding it. This person will smile at you and tell you to choose one of the bad memories you will see behind the door.

Most of these painful memories have been with you for a long time. You have carried them with you along the way, but never really stopped to analyze them, or take them in. Choose one of the bad memories you find in there. Now you go back to the door and the stairs.

A room full of good memories

Continue down the stairs to the next floor. The door you find here will open a room full of the positive memories you carry.

Go through the door and choose the memory that is most appealing to you, or the one that holds the deepest meaning for you. Then leave this room as well, and continue down the stairs.

Your refuge: The last stop on your journey towards personal growth

You have now reached the top floor, here you will find another room. When you walk through the door, you are in a wonderful room. This place will vary from person to person. It is a place where you feel comfortable and peaceful.

Sit in the middle of this room and recall the memories you took with you on the way down here. Spend time analyzing them until you realize that both your good memories, along with the bad ones, are a part of you.

After taking one last look around this beautiful place, start on the way back to where you came from. Along the way, put each memory back where you found it. Follow the same stairs up, and follow the same path back. Now you can open your eyes again.

Do not be afraid to open the door to your memories, good or bad.

Accept your past

This journey toward personal growth will help you accept the things that have happened to you so that you can better control your emotions.

If you are already practicing meditation, this journey will be much easier for you. If you are not as familiar with meditation, you may experience some difficulty relaxing and letting go.

If you need help, you should ask for it. Psychologists can help you with this exercise, and many others who will help you grow, and deal with all that still hurts you today.
